'An Evening at the Opera'- Live Broadcast from the Metropolitan Opera International Radio Booth of the Metropolitan New York Opera House

Tuesday, 22 January 2013 , ora 8.39

Radio Romania Music and Radio Romania Culture broadcast live on Saturday, 26th January at 19:50, a performance of the famous Metropolitan Opera House, right from the radio studio of the New-York opera. The performance chosen for this uncommon journalistic step is the work "La Rondine" by Giacomo Puccini, with two Romanian names on top of the playbill: the tenor Marius Brenciu and the conductor Ion Marin.

The broadcast can be heard live on FM, on the frequencies of Radio Romania Music and Radio Romania Culture, but also live audio/video on the websites: www.romania-muzical.roand www.radioromaniacultural.ro.

The performance of a Rondine is a production that had its premiere in the 2008-2009 season of the New York "Metropolitan" House with Angela Gheorghiu and Roberto Alagna as the leading singers, but also with the tenor Marius Brenciu in Prunier's role. In January 2013, "La Rondine" is on again with other musicians as the leading singers (Christine Opolais and Giuseppe Filianoti), but with the same Marius Brenciu in the cast. Ion Marin is the conductor of the New-York Opera, one of the ''veterans'', considering his collaboration with this opera house for almost 20 years.

Marius Brenciu: "I was offered the possibility to sing in the restaging of the performance. In 2008 it was already known that the second production would be performed in 2013. I was suggested the new programme and I accepted it. It's always about a choice of the production and the casting, but I have to tell you that the way in which Angela Gheorghiu performed Magda is something that you won't see on stage at the Metropolitan Opera again soon. There is another soprano with good qualities, but Angela is the one who impressed more. We can't eat caviar all the time, can we?"

Ion Marin: New York Metropolitan Orchestra and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra are the best orchestras in the world, far better than the rest of the orchestras. They distinguish themselves through flexibility, the colourful palette, precision and the power of concentration…. The balance on stage is also remarkable. That's why, I'm very happy to be here again, at the Met these day. I ran into former instrumentalists with whom I performed four, eight, 15th years ago… The generation has changed, there are new instrumentalists, but the wonderful "school" of the Metropolitan Opera still works and does this at a high level. (Parts of the interviews taken by Luminița Arvunescu, for the intermission of the live performance from 26th January, 2013)

Luminița Arvunescu, the radio host of the show called "An Evening at the Opera" on of Radio Romania Music, under whose heading this live event is broadcast, is in the radio studio of the New-York Opera House to comment on a performance for the third time in a row.
