The Season of the George Enescu Philharmonic continues in live-streaming, with live concerts broadcast from the Concert Hall of the Romanian Athenaeum, through the online channels of the institution.

Thursday, on the 15th of October 2020, beginning from 7 PM, the Symphonic Orchestra of the George Enescu Philharmonic, led by conductor Theo Wolters, will have soloist Viniciu Moroianu as the invitee. In the programme: Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 5's Adagietto in C-sharp minor, Joseph Haydn's Symphony No. 104 in D major (H. 1/104). Within the celebration of Beethoven's 250th Anniversary, Beethoven's Choral Fantasy for piano, chorus, and orchestra, op.80 will be interpreted in the final part of the intermissionless concert. On this occasion, the George Enescu Philharmonic Choir, led by Iosif Ion Prunner, returns along with the symphonic orchestra in the online Season, after six months of silence. Named usually the Choral Fantasy, the work was interpreted in premiere on the 22nd of December, 1808. The interpreters were vocal soloists, a choir, and an orchestra with Beethoven himself as the piano soloist. The text of the Fantasy belongs to the poet Christoph Kuffner and conveys a peaceful and joyous message through the power of music and poetry. This work is a sort of precursor of the Symphony No. 9. "In a letter written in August 1810 to the editors Breitkopf and Härtel, Beethoven emphasized specifically this idea of twinning through verse and sound. The role of the piano is crucial, it introduces us to the atmosphere of the whole through an ample introductory narrative, and it is also the herald of the main theme, taken over by the choir", musicologist Vladimir Popescu-Deveselu explains.
