One of the most brilliant fusion guitarists, with a highly regarded reputation, who left his own mark on the '80s music is Mike Stern. Originally playing in Miles Davis' band, he left a discography full of brilliance and style, that are unmistakable amongst the famous modern contribution brought to the world of jazz. The greatest challenge, however, came in 2016, and, sadly, it had nothing to do with music. Leaving his house in New York, Stern suffered an unfortunate accident due to an unmarked construction, causing serious damage to his hands, especially to the fingers on his right hand, forcing him to literally strap his guitar pick to his fingers. After many surgeries and intense therapy sessions, Mike Stern returned to playing guitar, and recorded "Trip" in 2017, an album that brings with it extraordinary news - the artist has not lost an ounce of his artistry. While in the studios, accompanied by sensational musicians, mentioning bassist Victor Wooten, drummer Dennis Chambers, trumpeter Randy Brecker or drummer Dave Weckl, Stern recorded his 17^th album with the energy and coherence of an inspired and top shape musician, thus putting behind the event that could have ended his career. His works still follow the line of recent productions, the virtue of a refined sense of sound, with rhythms from swing to fusion, with impeccable accord and enthusiastic improvisations. "Trip" brings nothing new because he had no intention to do so. But it is an acknowledgment of a passion that can surpass anything and keep intact the abilities of an artist, who is far from his final stage.
