A Special Programme during the Holy Week on 'Polyphonies' on 16th and 18th April

Wednesday, 16 April 2014 , ora 8.04

During the week preceding the Resurrection of Christ - The Holy Week - Radio Romania Music surprises music lovers with a programme of Romanian sacred music, suitable for the humility and devoutness which, naturally, overtakes every one of us during this period.

Thus, on Polyphonies, on Wednesday, 16th April, you will be able to listen to the 'Recviem-Parastas' for soloists, choir and orchestra, by Marțian Negrea. We know that this piece was composed in 1956 - when the author was in Bucharest - in loving memory of George Enescu; but it was first played in Timișoara in 1990, after Marțian Negrea's death. This recording was a collaboration among the 'Transilvania' State Philarmonic Orchestra, the Cluj Choir - both conducted by Emil Simion, the soprano Adrana Croitoru, the mezzo-soprano Ana Rusu, the tenor Ionel Voineag and the bass Gheorghe Roșu.

On Friday, 18th April, during the same show, you will be able to listen to the Easter Byzantine Oratorio 'The Passion and Resurrection of Christ' for soloists, choir and orchestra, by Paul Constantinescu. About Paul Constantinescu's Byzantine Oratorio - composed in 1943 and revised in 1948 - Professor Doctor Valentina Sandu Dediu said that it represented 'an outright premiere, the only attempt until that moment, of creating a reverential, deferential and at the same time original Romanian version of Bach's Oratorios or generally speaking, of this genre's European repertoire, for that matter'. On this occasion, we will be listening to a Radio Romania recording from 2004, performed by the National Radio Orchestra, conducted by Horia Andreescu, and accompanied by the baritone Eduard Tumagian, the mezzo-soprano Gabriela Popescu, the basses Mircea Moisa and Constantin Cocriș, the sopranos Alina Bottez and Simionida Luțescu, and the tenor Răzvan Săraru.

So, keep in mind these 2 remedies for our souls on Polyphonies - a show produced by Monica Cengher and presented by Sorina Bobeico - during the Holy Week, on Wednesday, 16th April and Friday, 18th April, at 13:20.
