Live broadcast from Saint Denis
Thursday, 28 June 2012 , 21.00

When we think of the Saint Denis village near Paris we may remember its famous cathedral, with its monumental stained glasses, but also with that... symbolic 'compendium' of French history illustrated through the multitude of funeral monuments dedicated to kings who reigned along centuries over these territories, reunited under the same towering arch. A space that seems to offer a scenographic frame so fit for the harmonies of many of the great Missa dedicated to those who have left us...

The inhabitants or the guests of Paris this summer will be part of a special event, to which you are invited as well, to take part through the live broadcast on Radio Romania Music.

On an enormous screen outside the cathedral, the audience will watch a concert from the 2012 Saint Denis Festival that will reunite inside the famous edifice almost 300 musicians called to perform an opus rarely heard: Opus 5: Grande messe des morts (Requiem) by Hector Berlioz. To complete the performance were called, together with the Radio France Chorus and the French National Orchestra, members of the Monteverdi Chorus, one of the artistic groups formed almost a century ago by John Eliot Gardiner, the musician who will conduct this imposing vocal-symphonic act. If the opening of the Festival on 31 May put the spotlight on the British Colin Davis (with Mozart's Requiem), the final concert gives the occasion to meet another important English representative of the worldwide musical culture, bringing to our attention an illuminating score for the image of French musical romanticism.
