A concert in memoriam Ion Voicu

The National Radio Orchestra and conductor Mădălin Voicu invite you to attend an extraordinary musical evening that includes a trip to America, on Friday, February 11th. Antonín Dvoűák’s Symphony No.9 in E Minor ‘From the New World’ and Ludwig van Beethoven’s Violin Concerto in D Major, Op.61 will be performed in the concert which is set to start at 19:00, at the Radio Concert Hall.

Beethoven’s Violin Concerto will be performed by the very talented violinist Florin Croitoru.

Florin Croitoru, a top-ranking violinist.

After his debut in 1994 with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, Florin Croitoru has been praised by the Austrian press as a ‘phenomenal soloist with a perfect technique’. He has performed in numerous recitals and concerts in over twenty countries in Europe, Asia, Africa and the United States. Florin Croitoru has been singled out as a unique talent and, consequently, he has received numerous awards in a myriad of national and international competitions. His track record lists eleven awards, among which the first prize in the International Fritz Kreisler Competition (Vienna, 1992).

His discography includes a compact disc recorded with Samuel Sanders and one with violinists Emil Israel Chudnovsky and Andrew Haveron. His repertoire is vast; furthermore, the artist has presented for the first time in Romania the complete Niccolò Paganini’s Caprices for Solo Violin.

Musician Mădălin Voicu

Mădălin Voicu studied violin at the Bucharest National Music University, under George Manoliu and Cornelia Bronzetti. He also got acquainted with the art of conducting and learnt from prestigious musicians such as Corneliu Dumbrăveanu, Carlo Zecchi, Hans Swarowsky or Sergiu Celibidache.

Mădălin Voicu conducted the ŽOlteniaŽ Philharmonic Orchestra of Craiova as well as the Ploiești Philharmonic Orchestra, while a permanent guest of orchestras all over Romania. He has toured extensively in the United Kingdom, Austria, Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Germany, Greece, Switzerland and Luxemburg. He has performed on many occasions alongside the Bucharest Chamber Orchestra, established by his father, the distinguished violinist Ion Voicu. An avid supporter of young musicians, he has organised, with the help of the ŽIon VoicuŽ International Foundation, a great many concerts and has rewarded artists such as Florin Ionescu-Galați, Gabriel Croitoru or Cosmin Bănică.
