Extraordinary recital to inaugurate the concert pipe organ at the Radio Concert Hall after its restoration
Tuesday, 16 March 2010 , 19.00

Radio Orchestras and Choirs invite you on Tuesday, March 16th 2010 starting from 19.00 to an extraordinary recital to inaugurate the concert pipe organ at the Radio Concert Hall after its restoration. Special guest Jennifer Bate from Great Britain is one of the greatest organists in the world.

The performance includes works of Robert Schumann, Franz Liszt, César Franck, Alexandre Guilmant, Louis Vierne and Léon Boellmann.

The restoration of the pipe organ built in 1960 in the Czech Republic was a success. Therefore, from now on, the audience will again be able to enjoy the tunes of this icon of the Radio Concert Hall. Numbering 7600 tubes, it is the largest pipe organ in Romania and one of the largest in Europe . In the last fifty years the instrument has never been improved or restored in any way so that lately it has failed to be used at its maximum capacity. The restoration included a complete reconditioning divided into several stages: disassembling and transportation of the components to the building company in the Czech Republic, the month-long restoration and the reassembling of every piece in the Radio Concert Hall, and finally the two-month-long tuning. The costs will be supported from the concerts which Radio Romania Music is going to broadcast again throughout the partner countries with the support of the European Broadcasting Union.

Jennifer Bate has got an impressive repertoire for the pipe organ which includes works of 18th-century composers as well as modern ones. She has performed in more than fifty countries and has received the 1990 Personality of the Year Award in France which makes her the third English musician - after Sir Georg Solti and Sir Yehudi Menuhin - to have received this distinction.

Some of the recordings of Jennifer Bate are the Antonio Vivaldi Concertos Transcriptions edited by the Unicorn, Kanchana, virtuosic works for the pipe organ of French composer reedited by the Regis Records and the five-CD album From Stanley to Wesley with the Complete Organ Works by Felix Mendelssohn as well as Peter Dickinson’s complete works released by Naxos. The organist has also been awarded with the Diapason d'Or and the Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik in Germany.

Jennifer Bate has recently performed in Austria, Croatia, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, Monaco, Grand Canary and Spain and she has taught at the Cambridge University.

Tickets are available at the Radio Concert Hall, the Germanos shops as well as Vodafone, Cărturești, Humanitas and online at www.eventim.ro
