Joseph Haydn’s Symphony No. 49 in F minor ‘La Passione’ or ‘The passion’ was performed in 1790 during the Holy Week in the German city of Schwerin. It seems that the title which was not given by Haydn is the result of the interdiction to play secular music in the city for ten years. Therefore, the name was some sort of ‘validity’ for his visit there.

Johann Sebastian Bach’s religious Cantata No. 182 Himmelskönig, sei willkommen describes Jesus entering the city of Jerusalem and the beginning of his passions.

You will be able to listen to the two works on March 31st, the Wednesday before Easter with the Radio Chamber Orchestra conducted by Christoph Adt (photo), a performance which also includes Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 14 in E-flat major.

The soloists are pianist Dana Borșan, mezzo-soprano Miruna Gavrilă Sturza, tenor Bogdan Mihai, bass singer Sandor Arpad, accompanied by the Radio Academic Choir conducted by Dan Mihai Goia. As always, the concert is to be broadcast live on Radio Romania Music starting with 19.00.
