An extraordinary event at the Mihail Jora Concert Hall, live on Radio Romania Music!

Two great names, two works which music lovers love for different reasons.

Nikolai Demidenko, a name familiar to our listeners due to his remarkable recordings and several almost completely unknown scores, that caught the attention of the audience through the wonderfully forged sonorities as well as through the artistic fantasy this musician impressed the international audience with. Studying in Russia as disciple of Anna Kantor (the famous teacher of the younger Evgeny Kissin) and then of Dmitri Bashkirov at the Moscow Conservatory, Demidenko has received numerous awards at international competitions and has been highly acclaimed by critics for his “electric” performances as well as for their “poetic authenticity” and “exquisite virtuosity”. Therefore, I invite you to listen to Nikolai Demidenko performing one of the most popular Romantic works composed for piano, namely Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 in C minor, Op. 18. For this recording, the pianist has also received a Diapason d'Or and a BBC Award for Disc of the Year, some critics describing it as a “true miracle”!

Conducting the Radio National Orchestra, Cristian Mandeal is definitely a reason to celebrate for those on the stage as well as for those in the audience. Performing the great Romantic works, he has always given us the feeling that he carves in the sonorities and offers them a fluidity which challenges the abilities of the ensemble. As for the modern works, he invites us to discover the features of the musical architecture, the forms and volume as well as the amplitude and clarity of the work.

I invite you to explore together the baton of maestro Mandeal conducting the Radio National Orchestra as well as the imposing dimensions and the intensity of Dmitri Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 8 in C minor – a truly exceptional event, especially given the context.

Someone once said that the Radio Concert Seasons have the… largest concert hall – if we also include the audience of the live broadcasts. Don’t miss the special programme tonight live on Radio Romania Music, a performance signed by internationally renowned artists.
