I bring forward to you an album that came out on 5th January, 2015: Chopin performed by the Brazilian pianist Nelson Freire, a new album of the anniversary series which was prepared by the Decca house for Nelson Freire, who turned seventy in 2014. This album is also included in the "Vote the best classical album of 2015" Radio Romania Music campaign. I invite you to listen to it and grade your favourite albums . On this album, there are some of the most renowned piano solo compositions by Frederic Chopin and Concerto no. 2 for Piano and Orchestra by the same Chopin, recorded along with the Gürzenich Orchester Köln and conducted by Lionel Bringuier.

Nelson Freire, one of the great Chopin performers of our times

… and one of the great pianists of the world - who we too have admired on the scene of the Enescu Festival, along with one of his best friends, the pianist Martha Argerich. Nelson Freire, the pianist for whom technique is not a purpose in itself, but rather a means of artistically recomposing a new world; the introvert pianist who avoids advertising himself and giving interviews; the pianist who started performing when only three years old and who, when twelve, performed Concerto no. 5 by Beethoven so successfully that it brought him the first place in the most important piano competition of his native Brazil.

I hope you, too

… along with me, as well as with other international reviewers, will appraise the Concerto no. 2 for Piano by Chopin, performed by Nelson Freire and the Gürzenich Orchester Köln, conducted by Lionel Bringuier. "An extraordinary recording" - is commented on the British radio station Classic FM. "Freire approaches music with elegance and with extraordinary melodic sensitivity. The album bolsters Freire's reputation not only as one of the best performers of Chopin, but also as one of the greatest pianists still performing in our times."
