Vince Mendoza & Metropole Orkest - 'Olympians"
There have been many brilliant orchestrators, who have changed in each generation the way of organizing music into an ensemble. Inspiration and rigor have been transmitted through Duke Ellington, Gil Evans, Quincy Jones, Bob Brookmeyer, Maynard Ferguson or Carla Bleyand continue to amaze us with new styles, thanks to some incredible musicians. One of my favorites is Vince Mendoza, a composer, conductor and an arranger who is unique by his diverse influences and incredible scores that transform orchestras into resonant wonders. I look forward to every album from him like a holiday. And here we have it. In 2023 we got another reason to celebrate, with the appearance of the album "Olympians", a reunion with Metropole Orkest, the only pop and jazz ensemble with continuous activity. A fantastic production with popular guests, but above all, a monumental musical display. The beauty of the music is complemented by the size given to each section of the orchestra and the level to which it is coordinated. The performance is overwhelming, the orchestra being able to comfortably articulate many more styles than a regular orchestra. Mendoza has been collaborating with the Metropole Orkest since 1995, and since then there have been many moments where music, regardless of genre, has been celebrated with elegance, enthusiasm and precision. From here comes the idea of the title of the album with songs written byVince Mendoza as a special gift for this phenomenal ensemble. "Olympians" highlights the importance, imagination and sophistication of an enduring collaboration through swing and blues on a symphonic scale, unmatched in quality and vision.
