Jazz for Kids is a special concert of the Radio Big Band, scheduled on June 1st, from 11:00, at the Radio Hall. It will be an event full of surprises for children of all ages. Read more about Jazz for Kids in an interview by Viorel Grecu with Radio Big Band conductor Simona Strungaru.

Let's start with the idea of Jazz for Kids. The approach is not "Let's show you adults how it's done!", but children are involved. If you can tell us more...

Yes, this is the second concert of its kind that we have played, performed and designed for children. Last year, around 1 June, we also had a Jazz for Kids concert, which is why this second edition has a subtitle "Concert for children of all ages". And it's important that we have children soloists playing with us a very serious repertoire. Of course, we also have well-known works from cartoons, themes, we also play jazz standards with children soloists. The soloists of our concert are mostly students of music colleges in Bucharest, who will sing both vocally and instrumentally. They are David Ivașcu on saxophone, Damian Barbu - vocals, Maya Sophie Burneci - vocals and trumpet, Anastasia Zmău - vocals. We have a quartet where the average age is 5 years old - it's a very special moment we are preparing, it's about cats. And we also have trios and duets by students of the Lipatti College in Bucharest, conducted by teacher Marina Arsene. So, it's a great deployment of forces and I think it's beneficial for the young generation to imagine how they could carry on this wonderful music with us.

Since you mentioned last year's edition, how was the June 1st concert received then?

It was received with great joy, with great appreciation. This year we will be joined by the Radio Children's Choir, as last year, conducted by Răzvan Rădos. And this movement of forces, the large number of children who will be on stage, will certainly impress and support the music in a very beautiful way.

Let's remember one important thing, especially for those who are in the habit of coming to Thursday night Big Band Radio concerts...

Yes, very important! Because June 1st is on a Saturday, we have agreed with the radio management that this concert of ours, the Radio Big Band, will take place on Saturday, June 1st, at 11.00 am.
