Interview with cellist Izabela Ghergu
The 15th edition of the Royal Charity Concert organized by the Princess Margareta of Romania Royal Foundation will take place at the Romanian Athenaeum on Friday, October 25th. The "Universitaria" Orchestra of UNMB and the conductor Tiberiu Soare will participate, and the soloists will be scholarship holders alumni of the "Young Talents" programme.
Our colleague Ana Sireteanu spoke to cellist Izabela Ghergu, one of the soloists at the charity Royal Concert on October 25th.
Izabela Ghergu, you are one of the soloists of the Royal Charity Concert taking place on Friday, October 25th at the Romanian Athenaeum. The event is organized by the Royal Foundation Princess Margareta of Romania, through the "Young Talents" program. In your capacity as a former beneficiary of this program, I would like to begin our dialogue with a look at the influence of this scholarship on your career.
I was a scholarship holder for three years during high school. At that time I was a teenager in training both musically and personally, and this scholarship and, in fact, the whole Young Talent program (because it offered much more than financial support) helped me a lot to develop. I participated in numerous mentorships with specialized people, various events, concerts, recitals...
Conductor Tiberiu Soare will conduct the "Universitaria" Orchestra of the National University of Music in Bucharest, an ensemble you were a member of in college.
Yes, as a student, I played in this orchestra. I am very happy that we are going to collaborate. I've also played with Maestro Tiberiu Soare before, also in the 2016 Royal Concert, so I'm honored and looking forward to playing together on Friday.
I will be performing Antonio Vivaldi's Concerto in G minor for two violins and orchestra with cellist Constantin Borodin. I look forward to getting together with my colleagues from the Universitaria Orchestra. It was always a pleasure to play in that orchestra and I look forward to reliving musical moments with them.
What are the challenges of performing a baroque work with two solo instruments and how do the rehearsals go?
The rehearsals go very, very well. Working with Constantin is very enjoyable. The challenges are that we try to keep our individual personalities, but to sound homogeneous, unitary... to sound like a duet, without giving up the features that characterize each of us.
Finally, please invite the audience to the concert!
We are looking forward to seeing you on October 25th at the Romanian Athenaeum, where, starting at 19:00, the Royal Charity Concert, organized by the Margareta of Romania Royal Foundation, will take place.
