Interview with artist Andra Lupu
On Friday, March 28th, starting at 19:00, there will be a new concert in the jazz season at the Goethe Institute. The vocalist Andra Lupu is the guest of the quartet led by trumpeter Sebastian Burneci, and the theme of the Concert is The Ages of Jazz. To find out more about the ages of Jazz, we will talk with Andra Lupu herself, the protagonist of the event at the Goethe Institute. Welcome, Andra, to Radio România Muzical.
Good Afternoon! Thank you for having me.
What can you tell us about the repertoire? Its title suggests a very long period, because Jazz music has been here for more than 100 years.
We have chosen to play a little bit from each period. I am just going to have a couple of interventions. This remains to be decided on the spot. Somehow, everything will happen chronologically, it will start from the beginnings, as much as this formula allows us to play, and up to the modern era.
Since you mentioned the formula, let's talk a bit about the musicians you'll be playing with. From what I could tell, you are already collaborating with some of them in other projects.
Me, Johhny Bica playing the piano, Alex Mike (bass) and Andrei Paraschiv playing the drums, played together before in some personal projects and in different other contexts. This is my first collaboration with Sebastian Burneci. It is an honor for me to be invited to this season. It is truly beautiful. We had a rehearsal and it seems the concert is going to be special. We are expecting as many people as possible.
Let's talk about your career. Many people also know you as Hera, your Stage name. You also sing pop songs, but you have a solid foundation in Jazz music. You also have a master's degree in this field. Please, tell us more.
I have been singing since I was a little girl. I went to the music school, but as any young person who explores, I tried many musical styles. This is where I find myself, in a mixture between soul, R&B, Jazz, this is the area where I would like my creativity to concentrate for my next compositions. I feel that my voice is there, that is the style I represent the best.
How was your master's degree at the National University of Music?
It was a challenge, of course, but we never stop learning. We learn constantly, we study all the time, like in many other domains, we never stop from learning and studying.
