Dumitru Capoianu turned 80!
This Monday, on October 19th 2009, the composer Dumitru Capoianu turned 80. I wished him 'Happy Birthday!' and we talked a little about the past, the present, but also about the projects that are to be carried out. And, if you already know that Dumitru Capoianu is playful, optimistic and loves puns, then, you will not be surprised by the things mentioned beneath.


Today we celebrate you at the age of 80. Happy Birthday! Which are the most pleasant memories you keep in mind from the entire career?

This is a very difficult question, and it is impossible for me to give a complete answer. Nevertheless, I can tell you how I feel in this moment: like those prisoners who get out from the trenches during the war - with the hands up! They surrender! I am now with my hands up, I surrender. Or like in those plates above the piano from the Mexican bars. There it is written: 'Do not shoot the pianist! He does what he can�'. This is how feel right now: do not shoot me; I have done what I could in 80 years! If I recall it now, I can tell that I don't regret what I haven't done, and, especially, I don't regret what I have done. I have no regrets.


What are you working on at the moment?

For 40 years, I have been overwhelmed by a fixed idea: that of a sound and light show, with everything that such an adventure involves. Because it really is an adventure, as such a show has never been made in Romania. Therefore, I lead all my efforts towards this direction.
