The Academic Music Festival, Sighișoara

Thursday, 5 August 2010 , ora 10.24

On August 1st 2010, The Academic Music Festival in Sighișoara began its 17th edition, which will end on August 11th. Its artistic director, violinist Alexandru Gavrilovici gave us a short statement on the feature of this edition:

"I am pleased to tell you that, during these unfortunate times, the Academy is extending. There are now 18 professors of great value. I believe we have reached the top this year.

On the 1st of August, the opening concert was held, and Mr. David Pia, prize winner of the International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow, performed an extraordinary recital. The hall was overcrowded, on a rainy day, which means that this type of music is starting to grow on the new public while our loyal public is still present each and every year.

On the 2nd day of August, Imre Rohmann and Tunde Kurutz performed; both of them are university professors at "Mozarteum" in Salzburg. As you know, 2010 is Schumann's year worldwide and we will be including some of his works in our 10 concerts, besides the Swiss repertoire, because this event is a link between Switzerland and Romania, the country where I work and the country where I was born."
