Interview with the violinist and conductor Luminitza Petre

Wednesday, 12 February 2020 , ora 13.40

The Radio Chamber Orchestra will have a concert on Wednesday, 12 February, together with the violinist and the conductor, Luminitza Petre. We will find out details about the concert from the protagonist.

How were the rehearsals?

Good, very intense. The musicians are very engaged with empathy and energy. I am very glad to come back after many years. I also think I printed the concerts by Myslivecek, with the Radio Chamber Orchestra, from 10 years ago, and it is very nice to see the musicians again. A lot of them are very young.

The evening program starts with the no. 6 violin concert and orchestra by Maddalena Lombardini Sirmen. What should the public know about this work before the Wednesday concert?

It is about the work of a famous composer, Maddalena Laura Lombardini Sirmen. Sirmen is the name she got from her husband, a German violinist Lodovico Sirmen. She is a violinist contemporaneous with Mozart, schooled at Ospedali in Venice, one of the most famous schools for girls. She corresponded with Tartini regarding the baroque bow technique. There are famous letters with Laura Lombardini. She was very respected by Tartini and Mozart's father, Leopold Mozart, mentions in a letter for his son, Wolfgand and his mother, that he listened to a very beautiful concert by Laura Lombardini Sirmen. She is a personality that appealed to me very much by her independence and virtuosity. She wrote six violin concerts, like the trend was back then, like Myslivecek. They are very virtuous and they surprise with the musical inventiveness and form. It's a concert that deserves to be listened and it is performed for the first time in Romania.

From the point of view of conducting matters, what is your vision regarding the evening program? I suppose that the double role of an artist and orchestra leader offers you the opportunity to have an unified approach in this matter.

The program was chosen in the area of Mozart's contemporaries and the program ends with the Mozart Symphony so loved by the public and I was thinking that Mozart would be a nice choice because Beethoven is conducted and performed very much this year. I performed this work as a master-concert and what you feel is very important when you perform. There are moments of big spiritual force. I think you can express a lot in this symphony.
