The George Enescu Philharmonic Orchestra performs for Europe

Monday, 13 September 2010 , ora 10.15

Starting this fall, Radio Romania, The George Enescu Phiharmonic and The European Radio Union will cooperate on a project regarding the broadcasting of a series of ten concerts of The George Enescu Philharmonic Orchestra by Radio Romania and other public radio stations affiliated to The European Radio Union. Mr. Pierre-Yves Tribolet, the manager of Euroradio Classics division within The European Radio Union.

Why have you chosen to collaborate with The George Enescu Philharmonic Orchestra ?

Over The European Radio Union and Television, radio listeners all around the world can access the world’s most prestigious events. Each country presents its whole musical life- festivals, competitions, opera shows- and its most valuable ensembles. Concerning Romania, due to historical reasons, The George Enescu Philharmonic Orchestra has not been a regular presence in The European Radio Union’s offers, although several of its concerts had already been aired by The Romanian Radio broadcasting. So, in order to allow all radio broadcastings to participate to the most famous Romanian musical events, we have started- with the help of The Romanian Broadcasting- this discussion with The George Enescu Philharmonic Orchestra, asking them if they want to cooperate with us and we have reached this agreement.

What impact do you believe these concerts will have on the European public opinion?

I believe that all European musicians, all music lovers and all listeners of the European public radio stations know that Romania is a country of great musicians, they know that the Romanian musicians are present in all European prestigious orchestras and I think that the audience will be very interested in the concerts performed by The George Enescu Philharmonic Orchestra. I think that, due to the quality of these programmes, this offer will be a regular presence in the broadcasting of the European public radio stations’ concerts, appearing with broadcastings of The Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, The Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, Concertgebouw and many others. Obviously, a certain period of time is necessary (and that is why the contract we have signed has a three-year period, hoping that we will continue to collaborate) for the public radio broadcastings to be able to organize their schedule so that they give the recordings of The George Enescu Philharmonic Orchestra the place they deserve.

Do you know which ten concerts will The European Radio Union broadcast during this first season of collaboration with The Bucharest Philharmonic Orchestra?

No. I am absolutely sure that the management of the Philharmonic is aware of the artistic, administrative and legal conditions that allow them to offer the best ten concerts of the season. It is entirely their decision, taken together with Radio Romania.

Thank you for your kindness of offering us details on this project!

I want to thank The Romanian Radio broadcasting for its help and, on behalf of all public radios, I want to thank for the possibility of presenting the concerts of The Bucharest Philharmonic Orchestra to the millions of European listeners.
