The Sonoro Festival Begins

Wednesday, 24 October 2012 , ora 9.58

This year`s 7th edition of the Sonoro chamber music festival will take place between 9th -25th November, in Bucharest, Iasi, Timisoara and Cluj-Napoca.

An informal press conference was held on 23rd October. This was a good opportunity for Petra Gherasim to have a dialogue with violist Razvan Popovici, who is also in charge with the festival.

The festival`s theme for this year is Love Unlimited. Will we fall in love?

Undoubtedly.

With whom
?

You will fall in love with music, the wonderful musicians, and a high-quality programme.

At the Lowendhal Foundation, we got together with this year`s organisers of the Sonoro Festival, and raised a glass of wine in honour of the 7th edition of the event. Since we mentioned the magical number seven… Can you tell us more about the magic of this 7th edition of the Festival?

The repertoire is very heterogenous as it comprises pieces by Mozart, Schubert, Brahms, John Cage, Karol Szymanowski, Gershwin or Eric Satie, Piazzolla.

Moreover, the Love Unlimited salon will be organised for the first time. You will have the opportunity to listen to Amoroso-amorezato music and meet the most distinguished scholars in the country: Horia Roman Patapievici, Ioana Pârvulescu, Alecu Bălășescu, and Tudor Giurgiu, our old partner and friend, director of the TIFF Festival in Cluj.

Marius Chivu, well-known for his reviews published in the Dilema Veche magazine, will also join us.

Are there any new names in this edition of the festival, or only the old guests from previous editions?

Half of them are the usual guests, like the illustrious members of the Raro Ensemble, but there are also a lot of new names.

I would like to mention the London-born pianist, Joanna Mac Gregor, the Swiss pianist Oliver Schnyder, the Rastrelli Cello Quartet from Frankfurt, four exceptional Russian cellists, the Szymanowski Quartet from Hanover, one of the most renowned European quartets, and let`s not forget violinist Andrej Bielow, who was here last year and will perform in Bucharest and in most of the concerts held around the country.

More than an interview

No sooner had I entered the Lowendhal house, then I was greeted by the music from the CD to be released this year. You can also hear it in the background of this coverage.

The meeting was informal, we shared opinions on the importance of the SoNoRo festival, this year`s theme, and the surprises of the 7th edition.

SoNoRo is one of the musical events of the autumn, such a familiar picture to me, one with elegant recitals, in sumptuous rooms, where a warm, diffuse light takes hold, as you are escaping the autumnal darkness outside.

You are greeted by refined musicians and the most beautiful and ever surprising pieces of chamber music.

Throughout these seven editions we became friends with the artists, and not only; so we always meet the same people from previous editions.

Students, journalists, music lovers, we are all united in the name of music. For a few weeks, we are all members of the big SoNoRo family. This is why, I feel so connected to this festival. How about you?
