For more than four decades, your activity has been intertwined with that of the 'Preludiu' Chamber Choir. How do you see today the connection between the maestro and the ensemble?

After 40 years of existence for the choir, it's natural that all relationships - both human and professional - have become so close, that I can't see myself without the 'Prelude' Choir and, probably, the choristers in the 'Prelude' Choir care about their conductor.

The artistic destiny of every musician is shaped by the influence of some great maestros. Who are, in your case, these personalities?

There have been a few models in my life who practically determined my future career and I would start with Ion Vanica, one of the most gifted choir conductors in Romania; he was my conductor when I was a child. Then, I had the chance to be, for a longer period, beside maestro Dorin Pop from Cluj, who conducted the 'Cappella Transilvanica' Chamber Choir. It was from him that I think I managed to 'steal' my training skills - because that is how this is called in our line of work and that is what he told me when I asked him how it all happened and what exactly happened: 'I don't know what to tell you. Look at what and how I do things and if you want to do like me, just do it!' And then, there are two other choir conductors who have left their mark on my career and who, at a certain point, were models in my activity: Nicolae Ciobanu - at that time, the well-known conductor of the University's Choir, where I started my apprenticeship, and Petre Crăciun - professor at the Conservatory.

What are the events on your agenda for the next months?

The first public appearance of the 'Prelude' Chamber Choir will be within the International Week of New Music, in a concert that will take place at our headquarters, at 'Tinerimea Română' National Art Centre, on 28^th May. Then, we'll be touring the choral festivals in the country, those still existing: Piteşti - the 'Dumitru Georgescu Chiriac' Festival, at the end of June; Focşani - the 'Pastorala' Festival, in the first half of July; and after that, most probably in August, we'll go to Germany.
