Winner of the 2021 edition of the Musical Romania's Heirs Scholarship, cellist Cornelius Zirbo is, along with pianist CadmielBoţac, the protagonist of the first tour organized by Radio România Muzical and Rotary Club Pipera within the Musical Romania's Heirs Scholarship project; the event started on January 8th and will end on January 13th, 2022. For the final concert, which will take place on the stage of the Radio Hall, tickets are already available on the website iabilet.ro.

The turn of the year is a good opportunity to take stock. What would be the main moments of 2021 that marked your professional evolution and not only that?

My answer will be somewhat atypical, namely that for me, the key moment that marked my professional and artistic development was something that, at first glance, has little to do with my career, and namely the fact that I had the opportunity, from January to mid-April, to get involved in a missionary action in Namibia (in Africa), where I was able to somehow detach myself from the civilized world and everything I was doing here in Bucharest. I got involved in an extremely disadvantaged community, in the middle of the San tribe, where I was an English teacher and where I did various artistic and musical activities with the children from that community. I can say that those three and a half months of break, during which, of course, I was without my cello, during which I detached myself from what I was doing here and spiritually charged myself with everything I could take from that place, those months made me resume,when I returned home in April, what I had been doing, with fresh energy and more will and motivation. I can say that that experience was very useful, I would repeat it anytime, of course, when I had the opportunity.

That's exactly what I was thinking to ask, is there any other such experience that you plan, such a journey that you are going to undertake in the near future?

I would very much like to, but of course, to take three months from your career, from everything, from school - as I am currently a fourth-year student at the National University of Music Bucharest - it is a great effort, and the fact that I had the support of the university and the professors' understanding was already something that meant a lot to me. But I don't know if I could repeat this experience in the very near future, although I would very much like it, to be honest.

Speaking of the fact that yes, you are still a student and the fact that you have already told me about the upcoming competition in Pretoria, South Africa, apart from that, how does your 2022 agenda look like, both in terms of university life and in terms of concerts? Are there already clearly established points?

Yes, there are. I already have a few events in perspective, including many auditions for the masterclasses I have proposed for the Musical Romania's Heirs Scholarship. I will also have some concerts with philharmonics in the country. They have to be fixed more precisely, and at the right moment I will talk about them. Of course there is also this competition in Pretoria, for which I have been preparing intensely for several months already. It's a busy agenda until June. A very productive year is coming. I look forward to pointing out each of these events that I mentioned.
