Interview with pianist Ioan Dragoș Dimitriu, the artistic director of the Brașov Philharmonic

Monday, 29 January 2024 , ora 10.37

Mister Dragoș Dimitriu, in the organization of the Brașov Philharmonic and the Radio Romania Muzical station, a special recital will take place on Saturday on the occasion of the International Classical Music Awards jury members' visit to Romania. What do you think is the importance of this event?

These awards and presence of the ICMA jury at an international level is extremely important for the artistic life and the artists' progress. I am glad that at the urging of the manager Cristina Comandașu, we are able to bring the ICMA jury to Romania for the first time and even to Brașov, in a very special event, because several of Romania's most important artists gather in Brașov to sing for this jury, but also for the Brașov public. Fortunately, the event had such a good response that it is already sold-out at the moment.

As you said, among your stage partners are famous musicians such as violinist Alexandru Tomescu, violist Răzvan Popovici or pianist Eduard Kunz, and the title of the recital is "Pe-un picior de plai, pe-o gură de rai." How will you musically illustrate this title?

As I said, along with Răzvan Popovici, Alexandru Tomescu and manager Cristina Comandașu, we thought what we could offer, musically speaking, to the ICMA jury when it comes to Romania and we thought that this program dedicated to Romanian culture perfectly places our country in the international context. That is why the program includes Konzertstück by George Enescu and Arioso and Allegro de Concert for viola and piano by Stan Golestan. We also have two musicians Iuliana Münch and André Parfenov with us. The program will end with the third Sonata for violin and piano by George Enescu, performed by Alexandru Tomescu and Eduard Kunz.

We believe this is a very beautiful program, which truly reflects what Romanian musical culture means and covers a very wide area of very good composers that Romania gave to the world. I am very happy with the relationship that we have had for years with Radio Romania and especially Radio România Muzical, which now takes physical form through an event dedicated to the official ICMA visit. Thank you very much for the support, promoting the events of the Brașov Philharmonic, even weekly from Radio România Muzical. We would also like to thank manager Cristina Comandașu for all the support!
