Hiromi Uehara Concert at the Radio Hall
On Tuesday, 30th June, 2015, the famous jazz pianist Hiromi Uehara gave a concert at the Radio Hall. The musician electrified the Bucharest audience with a vivid and eccentric programme. She shared the stage with the bassist Anthony Jackson and the drummer Simon Phillips.
The playlist mainly comprised the works on the three albums that the Hiromi Uehara Trio has launched until now. From the sophistication of New-York-flavoured jazz to the harshness of prog-rock sonorities, as well as to the few moments of slight, but not sappy, melancholy, Hiromi offered a full performance; a special presence, with no stage props, the artist permanently captured the attention of the audience due to her impeccable piano technique.
The bassist Mugurel Vrabete gave us his opinion on the concert performed at the Radio Hall last evening:
'Amazing! This is not the first time I have seen them play together, but regardless of the occasion, three super-instrumentalists can only offer something surreal, because Hiromi, in the first place, is more than a pianist. I quite enjoy her unique personality. Her playing is completely different from other pianists'. I find this evening's programme more melodic, closer to blues and the traditional American sound, compared to the concert two years ago. Anyway, it has been an absolutely unique moment.'
