Magic Summer Festival - RaRo Ensemble

Thursday, 20 July 2017 , ora 14.17

These weeks, every Wednesday nights have a different tint thanks to Magic Summer International Festival. I cannot tell if last night`s concert performed by RaRo Ensemble had another chromatic tint but it surely had a fine, delicate, sparkly one. Their goal was to bring masterpieces of the chamber music in front of the audience and they managed to achieve this. The ensemble was formed of the violonist Erik Schumann, the violist Răzvan Popovici, the cellist Justus Grimm and the pianist Diana Ketler, who inspire trust and professionalism. They are musicians with a lot of experience in this creation area and this is felt in every musical piece. Perhaps some of the overflowing energy of a new ensemble is missing which shows us that the artists are already in a new phase in their careers. The repertoire was diverse starting from an accessible part with Piano Quartet No.1 in G minor by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Rhapsody I by George Enescu, to a second, profound part, harder to grasp with just French music. Rhapsody`s arrangement is not a revolutionary one but it had a few intelligent moments and elegant solutions in order to compensate the lack of the orchestra. I especially liked a fragment where the viola was evoking the sounds of the brass.

The second part of the evening had much French refinement starting with Saint-Saens`s Barcarolle, Op.108 and ended with Gabriel Faure`s Piano Quartet No.1, Op.15. Sounds from another world were reproduced exactly by the musicians.

Finally, I could say that I had a very pleasant evening, a great concert at Magic Summer Festival and I`m looking forward for the baroque concerts next week.
