Tuesday evening season 2021. Cello recital. Winners of the 'David Popper' contest
All three young musicians invited to perform in the Season on Tuesday evening, January 26th, are winners of the "David Popper" Cello Competition. About the significance of this international competition, I asked another laureate, today one of the most important Romanian cellists of the moment, Octavian Lup, to tell us a few words: The Popper Contest meant a very interesting experience for me. First of all, in terms of the repertoire, which meant two stages with technically and musically difficult works.
Secondly, the members of the jury were outstanding personalities of the worldwide cello life and last but not least, a very large number of well-trained competitors. In the year I was awarded the Second Prize, the First Prize was won by the famous cellist Istvan Varday, who today is pursuing a large international career. The three young winners of the "David Popper" Contest who will be able to be listened to and watched live from the small, unfortunately still empty Hall of the Romanian Athenaeum, are named Ștefan Iordachi, Julia Coteanu and Aida Popa. Guided by the same teacher, Mrs. Ani-Marie PALADI, they all already have a remarkable concert activity and have been awarded prizes at international competitions. The recital will be broadcast on the YouTube channel of the "George Enescu" Philharmonic, on the Facebook of the Philharmonic and on that of Radio Romania Muzical.
