Bucharest music lovers have returned to the Radio Hall

Wednesday, 9 June 2021 , ora 15.28

After almost nine months in which no applause was heard at the Radio Hall, the emotion of the reunion was almost palpable on Friday, June 4th, when the members of the National Radio Orchestra met again with the music lovers from Bucharest. The program of the evening consisted of two well-known opposites and accessible to the general public: Concert no. 21 in C major for piano and orchestra by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and the 8th Symphony in D minor known as the Unfinished Symphony by Franz Schubert.

As a soloist of the concert work, Sînziana Mircea offered a Mozart with full sound, long phrases and a use of the pedal that denotes an attempt to recontextualize Concert no. 21, whose main themes, for example, have retained the simplicity and vivacity characteristic of the Mozartian style; there were also moments along the score when the germs of the Beethoven language could be observed. The fact that these tendencies of the text were noticed and highlighted indicates that I listened to a mature artist, with ideas well anchored in the historical reality of the performed piece. The first half of the evening ended with two encores by Sînziana Mircea - Variations on themes from Carmina Burana by Carl Orff and Image Baroque on themes by Johann Sebastian Bach and Georg Friedrich Haendel. The two works were well received by the public, highlighting the piano skills of the soloist. One of the pleasant surprises of the evening was the audience itself - we saw a large number of children and young people, accompanied by parents or grandparents, a welcome and long awaited change by both music lovers and musicians.

Under the baton of Lubnan Baalbaki, the National Radio Orchestra performed well, both in the first work of the evening and in the VIII Unfinished Symphony by Franz Schubert. Obviously, the transition from Mozart to Schubert involved a leap, but both in terms of the stylistics of early romanticism and in terms of form and language, the musicians were well prepared. The reactions of the audience were warm, obviously, as we could find out after the concert:

"Fantastic! When we heard the tickets were on sale, we immediately thought of buying them."

"It was great, great! I really enjoyed it! It's an experience I would like to live again. After a year of madness, it really was a pleasant experience!"

"The concert was extraordinarily beautiful! I also go to the Philharmonic, but they surpassed them a lot. I was very happy! Tonight's concert was a joy. We missed it a lot. But it can also be seen on public. It was a delight, absolutely a delight! Let's hope we still have some such evenings. "

"One of the great joys I've been waiting for a long time. Last night I went to the Athenaeum ... everything started to go back to normal. And, indeed, the program was at the level I was expecting. And the performance, also at the highest possible level. "

"Superb concert! Tonight I realized how much we missed, at least for me, all these concerts. I admire the great evolution, I dare say, of Sînziana. It's wonderful! She performed with Tomescu a few years ago back in "Magic Summer"; I liked it, but since then it's evolved terrifically. Well done! " - Dorin Ioniță, general manager of Lanto Communication, the organizer of the "Magic Summer" Festival, talking about the concert on Friday, June 4th, at the Radio Hall.

Given the warmth with which this first concert was received, we can only wait for the next events dedicated to Bucharest music lovers, especially after such a long absence from the concert halls.
