Avishai Cohen: 'Cross my Palm with Silver' – Jazzy Hour, 5 October

Monday, 18 December 2017 , ora 11.41

There are more and more Israeli musicians who, after finishing their studies and moving to a place where the jazz scene is bigger and better organized, produce works that are remarkable in today's musical environment. Two of them have completely different styles, play different instruments, but share the same name and perform in the same environment. Everyone knows bassist Avishai Cohen - who has already visited us on several occasions - as well as trumpeter Avishai Cohen - who impressed us on the stage of the Radio Hall (Sala Radio) and, in May 2017, released an album that has had a bigger impact than his previous ones.

The muted tones, the lyricism, the group relationship but especially the themes of reflection - regarding the neurotic state of society and the permanent conflicts that arise everywhere - make 'Cross my Palm with Silver' a powerful album. The artist's music creates much beauty and powerful emotions without relying on any twists.

Trumpeter Avishai Cohen becomes an important name in his own right even if, on a phonetic level, he might be mistook for someone else. His music, however, can never be mistook for anyone else's.
