Al Di Meola's Opus – Jazzy Hour, the 26th of April 2018

The album entitled Opus was launched on the 23rd of February 2018. First of all, the name represents one of the most used musical terms, especially for the classical periods, to describe the defined work of a composer, usually paired with a number. It does not necessarily suggest a masterpiece, it is not meant to present the composition to us in a better light by increasing its value, but this term, that was also borrowed by other music genres, might indicate the artist's intention of presenting a concise work, defining for his own creation. And, when referring to an esteemed artist such as Al Di Meola, who, from an aesthetic point of view, has often shocked the world that combines jazz with other genres, we can accept the term "opus" as a crown, giving us a hint of the amplitude and the creation of an artist that has more than 40 years of discovery under his strap, in a moment of change that is beneficial for his personal and artistic life. Opus manages to comprise all the strong traits of his career in the shape of new pieces, orchestrated and interpreted more relaxed than ever. Naturally, the quality of the interpretation is close to perfection, as usual. As a composer, Meola presents itself more evolved, whereas the guitarist in him generously brings back all the licks that made him famous throughout his career, from the sophisticated chords to the unmistakable staccato and the sound of his electric guitar. It is a pleasure to listen to the compositions of such a great musician, who interpreting the songs with such satisfaction, being at peace with himself, maybe for the first time in his entire life.
