The first European country to come in contact with America's twentieth century music, namely jazz and blues, was Great Britain. This can be easily explained as these genres reached British land through tradesmen, sailors, soldiers and last but not least, the artists who had created this melting pot of perfect mixtures and individual sound, derived from the American idiom. Jazz music is illustriously represented by British musicians and if we take a look at the short British jazz list, we find the name Mark Lockheart - a saxophonist and one of the most renowned composers and instrumentalists. Lockheart finds his inspiration in life and its joys, by other talented musicians and by the variety of ways of playing, especially when the style is complex and refined. The album, "Days on Earth", released in January 2019, epitomizes the composer - saxophonist, orchestrator and producer Mark Lockheart. A musical corpus that contains all the influences and genres shaped Lockheart as a musician - from the ample and lengthy improvisations with the Polar Bear band to 70's funk, to world music and chamber orchestras. "Days on Earth" is Lockheart's most consistent album, compressing 25 years of musical know-how as well as life experience into a single CD, but with an emphasis on the instrument and the composition, and an ensemble of musicians all at the same level as Lockheart. The distinct melodies, their orchestration, the proportioned nuances, the refinement, the manner in which each scenery is transposed through the musician's feelings shows us what the peak of a career looks like. It actually marks the end of a chapter and the beginning of a new one for one of the best British musicians of the moment.
