Joe Chambers - 'Samba de Maracatu' - Jazzy hour, the 27th of April 2021

Wednesday, 26 May 2021 , ora 19.50

There are indeed a lot of invaluable musicians who have contributed to the creation of great titles, who have gracefully etched their personality on some classical releases, but at the same time from various reasons, rarely had the occasion to actually create something independently. A good example in this matter would be the drummer Joe Chambers, who is more of a multi-instrumentalist. In the period between 1964 and 1971, he served as a house musician at Blue Note, appearing on many influential releases next to Freddie Hubbard, Donald Byrd, Wayne Shorter or McCoy Tyrner. When offered the possibility of a solo album, he refused as he was lacking the time for it. Only in 1998 did he get to release his wonderful solo project, "Mirrors". The venerable musician performs a comeback in 2021 with an opposite that reflects his years of perfection, but notas a show of basking in personal glory, and rather as a tribute to those who inspired him. "Samba de Maracatu" brings about the feeling of a Brazilian music album title, but it is not, as it reflectsa rhythm originallyfrom Pernambuco passed through the foreign lands of West Africa. Along with bassist Steve Haine and pianist Brad Merritt, Chambers performs a state of rhythm, expressing his current musical style through several songs arranged in a combined repertoire, so as tonot only emphasize the influences, but also the qualities of the author. The attention of the publicis directed to the created atmosphere, to the equilibrium between piano and vibraphone and the mystical dialogue within the rhythm section. Joe Chambers has reached the level where he can evoke the past without bringing nostalgia, using it to form his own vision about the present with elegance and musicality.
