There's a clear reason why Wes Montgomery's music continues to inspire guitarists around the world, more than 50 years after his demise. His musical genius who combined in a unique style the blues with bebop, the smile created by the musical fluency, the simple and accessible compositions, discreetly moved by changes and towers had the power to open the way for modern guitar in jazz. Hence the multitude of albums dedicated to him, not to mention all those who quote him or reflect his style. One of the guitarists who recognizes the strong influence of Wes is Nigel Price, who released in 2021, together with an all-star band, the album "Wes Reimagined". Just like the title says, we have the opportunity to listen to Wes Montgomery's music in a spectacular update. The same instruments, based on the trio organ formula (guitar, drums, Hammond organ), the same songs, virtuoso refreshed by musicians who know very well who they pay homage to.A reverence in the style of a great musician, to another great musician, on an exceptional record, which you listen to with maximum pleasure, then listen to it once more. Nigel Price doesn't copy Wes Montgomery, it would make no sense to imitate a melodic and harmonic force. Each piece evokes Wes' genius, imprinting Nigel's flair and personality. They all sing very well, united by mutual respect and passion for Montgomery's music. In my opinion, this is what jazz should sound like: communicative, sincere, to include the listener and connects generations through the continuous thread of musical freedom. "Wes Reimagined" is a perfectly arranged album.
