Another group album, defined by the value of the musicians and the leader's ability to unify them under a strong musical concept, is the Tarmu Jazz Quartet, released by one of the most original jazz vibraphonists, an improviser with a unique sound, and a composer with a modern, uncompromising approach. Eldad Tarmu completed his ensemble with saxophonist Adam Hutherson, bassist Sam Bevan, and drummer Cengiz Baysal for a more in-depth exploration of his own compositions, aiming for a clearer and unified musical direction. The mission is accomplished as long as the explosive improvisations are well-proportioned, the rhythm is flowing and engaging, and the concise score encourages the group to communicate fully. Eldad Tarmu started as a drummer, then studied the vibraphone and performed with Freddie Hubbard, Poncho Sanchez, and Ernie Watts. His experience also includes several years spent in Romania (2005-2008) as a teacher and musician. He has recorded ten albums as a group leader, and the one from 2023, TJQ, is the best executed of them all.
