Kletzmer genre in an original manner

Something that I have learned on my own is that music sometimes is similar to the domino effect and that good music leads to another good music, most of the times: one kletzmer song led to another kletzmer song and this is how I have come to discover the Kletzmer Juice band members. Once upon a time...

Their name is Kletzmer Juice and they are a quintet that approach kletzmer genre in an original way, reaching into the jazz field. 'Actions Speak Louder than Words', the first title in the discography of the group led by Gustavo Bulgakh was released in 2004, and was followed by another two albums in 2008 and 2009. At the beginning of the 20th century, kletzmer music became highly popular, reaching even the United States of America and even some countries in South America. Clarinettist and saxophonist Gustavo Bulgakh - born in Buenos Aires and who on November 4th will turn 46, settled in Venice, California, where he started the band Kletzmer Juice. The style of the five musicians is a combination of traditional Yiddish music and Sephardic music, mixed with sounds from World Music, jazz and classical music in a way they called 'Hollywood Kletzmer'. The success of the band continues: Kletzmer Juice can be heard in clubs, coffee houses and on the stages of important jazz festivals, winning audiences with their energy, expressiveness and surprising improvisations. The same happened on October 23rd when Gustavo Bulgakh's group held a concert at 'The Walking Stick', a coffee house in Venice, California.

'Puss in Boots'
comes to life

It seems that life is too short for just one passion - at least that what the historian Lucian Boia said recently. And because most of the times a music lover is also a lover of film, the story of 'Puss in Boots', inspired by Charles Perrault's fairytale, comes to life as an animated film which will be shown in movie theatres in Live HD, on November 21st. The character is taken from the 'Shrek' series, and the actor who lent his voice as the Puss is Antonio Banderas. The film makers promise a big event, and until we will have access to its soundtrack, almost entirely composed by Henry Jackman - disciple of the famous composer Hans Zimmer - we will enjoy the lines of some ... aristocratic cats.

November - jazz month

In the European geographical space, the month of November can be declared 'Jazz Month'. During this month several jazz festivals are ongoing; London, Wroclaw, Zagreb and Granada are just some of the cities that have become or will become international scenes of this genre.

In South-East Spain, jazz will be celebrated through the International Festival in Cartagena - starting on November 5th until November 26th. During the three week festival the audience will get the chance to hear the singer Wanda Jackson - a household name in the '50s and '60, guitarist Pat Metheny - who recently played in Bucharest - but also two young women who represent World Music and jazz, respectively: Anoushka Shankar, the daughter of the famous Indian sitar player Ravi Shankar, and the singer Lizz Wright. We have already talked about the former, so it is time we get acquainted with the musical style of the American singer, Lizz Wright. Frequently compared to Norah Jones, Lizz Wright started playing gospel music and piano at a very early age, later turning her attention to jazz and blues. Her success began in 2004, together with the release of the first record, 'Salt', and she released four albums so far. On November 6th, Lizz Wright will begin a tour in Stuttgart and it is comprised of eight concerts, and the audience in Basel, San Francisco and Santa Monica will get the chance to hear her. Those who cannot fly all the way over there will 'fly' on music, just like little sparrows.
