Rossini, hundreds of representations, dozens of artists putting all of their energy in the service of his music. Rossini, a creative spirit, a lover of musicals. Rossini once again! And this time, after nearly two hundred years since his debut, his work is performed at the MET in a new production of the first score that he composed for the Parisian audience: Count Ory.

The director of this New-York production?

Bartlett Sher: intelligent and experienced in drama, opera and musicals, a director who will make out of every musical a really memorable event.

The decorator and costume designer?

Michael Yeargan: inventive and very funny, a designer who has brought to the opera the picturesque appearance of its characters.

The protagonists?

The tenor Juan Diego Florez, the soprano Diana Damrau and the mezzo-soprano Joyce Di Donato - a group of artists long past of their going even beyond international fame, an exceptional trio that, under the baton of Maurizio Benini, will increase the value of the interpreted characters with new virtues and vibrations.

So, a new Rossini?

Personally, I think so, yes. In any case, it is a Rossini worth going back for at MET, together with An Evening at the Opera.
