Roxana Constantinescu at the Staatsoper from Viena
Saturday, 11 December 2010 , 19.00

At the Staatsoper from Viena, success has no variations - it is either total success, or it is no success at all. It is a place where one cannot overbid and where unworthy creations have no room; at the same time, when a performance is great, the words of praise never seem to cease…

We must keep in mind that, at the Staatsoper in Vienna, one cannot talk about easy success. It is always a hard-won success, because the taste of the audience has been educated in time by the greatest opera artists. Moreover, success is also hard to keep in an extremely competitive world, aspiring to find the complete artist and always referring to an ideal past.

As a consequence, if you are part of the soloists of the Vienna State Opera, you may consider yourself chosen; and if you are permanently distributed in scores and important performances, then you can say you are - without any embarrassment - a successful artist. This is the case of mezzo-soprano Roxana Constantinescu: since 2007, she has been soloist of the Staatsoper, Vienna, after being awarded several important prizes and international scholarships. She is a voice, an artist who sprang from the Radio Children's Choir and then grew up in the school of soprano Maria Slătinaru-Nistor. She is an artist who, over the last three seasons, has obtained a resounding success.

Has it been easy to her? Has she deserved every success?

You are about to find that out in the show of Don Giovanni and the interview to be broadcast on Saturday, December 11th 2010, in the break from the live broadcast from Vienna. This week, An Evening at the Opera opens the 2010-2011 Season of live broadcasts, by offering you, besides the shows from the Metropolitan Opera House in New York, the shows from the State Operas in Vienna and Munich hoping to be a successful programme this season.

In the new production of Don Giovanni (signed by director Jean-Louis Martinoty), Roxana Constantinescu plays the part of Donna Elvira: a part with important soloist moments and a difficult character, dominated by a faithful and demanding love, evolving together with the great artists such as: Ildebrado D' Arcangelo (Don Giovanni), Alex Esposito (Leporello), Sally Matthews (Donna Anna), Saimir Pirgu (Don Ottavio), under the baton of conductor Franz Welser-Möst of the Viennese opera.

It is an important evening for Roxana Constantinescu, therefore, do no miss the live broadcast from the Vienna Staatsoper, with Roxana Constantinescu playing, in premiere, the part of Donna Elvira in the new production of 'Don Giovanni', on Saturday, December 11th, at 20.00
