An evening at the Opera
At the MET, an important hit

The Metropolitan Opera, an imported ‘hit’
I would like you to do two things, for our edition on Saturday, January 15th 2011:
First of all to remember a... 2005 La Traviata – made in Salzburg,
which I am certain you have all seen and kept in memory - either due to
the excitement, or to the non-acceptance, or simply because it launched
the golden couple of opera performance, composed by Anna Netrebko and
Rolando Villazón.
It was a minimalistic staging of La Traviata, directed by Willy
Decker, with a Violetta dressed in red, athletically moving around a
Destiny, measured by the clock’s hands, in the middle of a society
standardized by parties and balls.
Then, mentally prepare yourself for another couple’s performance of the same staging: Marina Poplavskaya (photo) - Matthew Polenzani.
Could it be? Peter Gelb, the five-star manager of the Metropolitan Opera
House is totally convinced that this could work. I invite you to enjoy
this experiment together, especially since we have a second opportunity
this season: to see Russian soprano, Marina Poplavskaya. This soprano is
said to be the latest favourite of New York’s audience. Tune in on
Radio Romania Music!
