Final season of the Radio Chamber Orchestra
Wednesday, 16 June 2010 , 19.00

Young and distinguished artists are to perform for the season finale concert held by the Radio Chamber Orchestra, namely conductor Mihail Agafița and violinist Ilian Gârneț. Both of them were born in the Republic of Moldova and have studied in Chișinău, perfecting their studies at well-established European universities.

For fifteen years, Mihail Agafița, one of the most talented conductors of his generation has conducted an impressive number of concerts, operas or ballets alongside ensembles from Romania, the Republic of Moldova, Spain, Finland, U.S.A., Russia, Ukraine and Belarus, Greece, Portugal, Italy, France, Monaco, Malta and Tunisia.

Ilian Gârneț has been awarded prizes in two international competitions which are crucial in the career of a violinist – the 2008 Tibor Varga Violin Competition and the 2009 Queen Elizabeth Music Competition where he won third place. Alongside the Radio Chamber Orchestra and under the baton of conductor Dan Mihai Goia, the guest musicians are to perform works from two stylistically different periods, namely the classical Viennese and the modern Russian:

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s overture for The Magic Flute
Joseph Haydn’s Violin Concerto in C major,
Dmitri Shostakovich’s Chamber Symphony in C minor, Op. 110a after Rudolf Barshai’s arrangement for Quartet No. 8
Sergei Taneyev’s St. John of Damascus Op. 1
.

Enjoy!
