Do You Like Bach? - live broadcast from Radio Hall
Wednesday, 21 March 2012 , 19.00

Do You Like Bach? - the first attempt of a Romanian artist to perform Johann Sebastian Bach's Six Suites for Unaccompanied Cello, in a single concert.

If Bach had had available the technical possibilities nowadays, together with his genius, courage and profoundness he wouldn't have hesitated using whatever means of artistic expression necessary to carry forward the complexity of his music.

Cellist Răzvan Suma proposes a virtuous performance of Bach's entire suites for cello, during the national tour 'Do you like Bach?' held in eight Romanian cities between the 1 and 21 March.

Răzvan Suma is one of the most active young Romanian musicians with a vast repertoire, including over five hundred recitals and concerts all over the world. In 2009 he became soloist of The National Radio Orchestra and Chorus and as an associate professor of The National University of Music in Bucharest he had an intense pedagogical activity. From 2006 until now he has participated at six tours as part of a trio: 'Romanian Piano Trio' or 'Trio Strad' - along with Alexandru Tomescu, Horia Mihail and Toma Popovici.

At the moment Răzvan Suma plays an instrument created in 1849, in Paris, by the highly appreciated stringed-instrument maker Charles Adolphe Maucotel. In the 19th century, this instrument belonged to the French cellist Pierre Fournier. The Maucotel-Fournier cello was given to Răzvan Suma in 2009 by Musicha in San Sebastian, Spain.

The audience will listen to the Six Suites for Unaccompanied Cello accompanied by multimedia projections on translucent panels; video projections that will help the concert become a complete show of music and images. Tom Brânduș, the creator of this multimedia concept of the event, has put together a truly imaginative itinerary for the audience during the whole performance. Each part of the suites takes the audience into another story: these projections represent some complex aspects of Bach's life, elements from the Baroque period during which Bach has composed or details about cello and cellists.

On Wednesday, 21 March starting from 19:00 we invite you to tune in on Radio Romania Music to listen to an exceptional concert broadcast live from the Mihail Jora Hall.
