For Romanians, the bandoneón and the accordion are very little known instruments, which have rarely been studied and associated with other genres of music;there is a rich international repertoire of the genre and the players have proven to be authentic, passionate, refined and original musicians.

The Radio Choirs and Orchestras invite you to a unique musical event in Romania: The Bandoneón and Accordion International Festival which is taking place at the Radio Hall during March 17th-March 24th 2010.

The foreign guests of this festival will be making proof of their virtuosity in concerts with an orchestra as well as in soloist recitals. They will also give you the opportunity to listen to works by Bach, Rachmaninoff, de Falla, Bacalov, Piazzolla, Baretta, Rodriguez, Romero, inviting you to hear extremely special sounds.

The unquestionable star of the Festival is French instrumentalist and composer Richard Galliano, who will be accompanied by the sextet bearing his name. This is how he has described the two instruments which have made him famous around the world: ‘At present, the accordion and the bandoneón, which are wind instruments with keyboards (stereo), vibrating reeds, genuine portable organs, are almost the only instruments which add a glow and ‘new blood’ to each work by Johann Sebastian Bach from a strictly instrumental point of view’.

The opening concert will be taking place on Wednesday, March 17th 2010, starting at 19.00, when the Radio Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Horia Andreescu will be accompanied by guests Peter Soave (bandoneón), Madeleine Soave (accordion), Alina Bottez (soprano) and Yuriy Tsiple (baritone). The Radio Choir, prepared by conductor Dan Mihai Goia will also be taking part in the event. The programme: Piazzolla, Romero, Bacalov.

On Thursday, March 18th, starting at 19.00, Peter Soave (bandoneón and accordion) and Madeleine Soave (accordion) will hold a recital with music by Boellmann, Piazzolla, Bacalov, Astier and others.

On Friday, March 19th, starting at 19.00, The National Radio Orchestra, conducted by Gerd Schaller, will be accompanied by other two renowned quests: Hector Ulises Passarella (bandoneón) and Claudio Jacomucci (accordion), who will be performing music by Passarella, Rodriguez, de Falla.

The two soloists will also hold a recital which will be taking place on Sunday, March 20th, starting at 19.00, when they will be performing music by Bach, Passarella, Piazzolla, Gardel, Jacomucci.

On Thursday, March 19th, starting at 19.00 the extraordinary recital of the Galliano Sextet will be taking place, offering the public a true regal with music by Bach, Piazzolla and Galliano.

The closing concert will be held by the Radio Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Roberto Salvalaio, with Richard Galliano (bandoneón) as guest. The programme: Piazzolla, Romero, Lecuona.
