Oz Noy: the 'Snapdragon' album - Jazzy Hour, the 19th of January 2021

The term "fusion" became too general, or rather becomes more and more dilute with the addition of new elements in its musical component. As such, it's better for us to use the word jazz in order to make a clear reference, more specifically electric jazz, when talking about the music of the incredible guitarist Oz Noy. With an impressive imagination and a technique to match, searching for unexplored musical territories, Oz Noy explodes once again on the "Snapdragon" album, with the same rhythmic freshness and a bonus of improvisational energy. Complicated melodies in unison, spaces consistently completed by groove, ideas of an inexhaustible inventivenessdeveloped intelligentlycome one by one on songs that surprise both our mind and musculature. It's enough for us to find out what options of rhythmical section are on this album in order to want to absorb each tact. On battery: Dennis Chambers, Vinnie Colaiuta and Dave Weckl. On bass guitar: Will Lee, James Genus, JohnPatitucci. And Oz Noy, with tone and technique, changes solos and themes written together with the saxophonis Chris Potter, the keyboardist David Kikoski or the trumpeter Wallace Roney. Contemporary jazz on funk rhythms, with the chords and phrases which reflect his distinctive personality. Through "Snapdragon" we can form an idea of what originality in a familiar musical setting means.
