Enrico Pieranunzi & Thomas Fonnesbaek - album 'The real you' - Jazzy hour, March 16th, 2021

The second album captures the moment when the great pianist Enrico Pieranunzi met the distinguished Danish bassist Thomas Fonnesbaek, a moment of intense energy captured on the album "The real you". The two complement each other fascinatingly, shining in each other's company, provoking each other in a rare combination of technique and temperament. Everyone completely masters their instrument, and together they offer us a world-class act. They have sung a lot together in recent years, accumulating a rich experience, developed on the mutual admiration of the musical understanding and the talent they share. A creative collaboration of two connected musical spirits who dedicate an album to another huge artist who inspired them. "The real you" is dedicated to pianist Bill Evans, one of the musicians with the greatest influence on modern jazz, sung in his spirit, in an interplay that avoids the predictable and causes a smile. Pieranunzi's musical language is licked by classical music. His style can be framed in "classical jazz", through the dynamic touch that lets the phrases and songs come to light on the surface.

Thomas Fonnesbaek's bass creates a foundation for songs with his rhythmic insistence but also elegance, which responds carefully to sensitivity and detail. His melody also refers to Scot LaFaro, Bill Evans' bassist, so expressive and inspiring, who would have left many more moments of uniqueness if he had not died at the age of 25 in a car accident. Another recording that sends us into a generous space, dominated by serenity, with sparks of joy, an ideal environment to leave everything in favor of deep listening, provided by a tandem that interprets honestly and seemingly effortlessly.
