Larry Coryell & Philip Catherine - 'The Last Call' album - Jazzy hour, April 13th, 2021

We continue (the series) with two legendary guitar artists connected by an old mutual admiration, despite the different influences and some essential moments of the recorded history of jazz. Larry Coryell and Philip Catherine first recorded two excellent albums together in the 1970s, "Twin House" in 1977 and "Splendid" in 1978, and will be back on stage in 2017, in a memorable concert in Berlin. The moment was recorded and released in 2021 under the title "Last Call". Not only the palpable exuberance of the two remains in the memory, but also the fact that we are listening to the last recording with Larry Coryell, who died four weeks after this event. After four decades, they appear on the same stage, as an echo of a special musical relationship, marked by creative compatibility, enthusiasm and mutual understanding. The moments of refinement and deep connection make this album not only a memory exercise, a recovered act but also a reference title in the collection of one of the most brilliant guitar duets. The two are joined at one point by pianist Jan Lundgren, bassist Lars Danielsson and trumpeter Paolo Fresu.
