Kjetil Mulelid - 'Piano' album - Jazzy Hour, May 11th, 2021

It's high time for Kjetil Mulelid to record a solo piano album. It's 2021, which is a year when the possibilities to sing in the usual trio formula are severely limited. The ideas do not take a break, however, and the artistic maturity is in favor of such a moment. Titled simply"Piano", Mulelid, aged almost 30, performs 11 songs in a serene environment, while communicating intimately with the instrument, which is a beautiful 1919 Bosendorfer from a studio in Norway. The songs are divided into echoes of childhood performances, on the one hand, when Beethoven, Chopin and Debussy prevailed, and peaks of rhythm and improvisation, on the other hand, developed in an attractive soundtrack and very pleasant to listen to, which favors from the beginning a nice mood. The sound is so good, that we seem to stand near the piano. Kjetil Mulelidis melancholic, exuberant or surprising, however he is always elegant; he keeps us relaxed and confident in a kind of daydream. There are many, may be too many, solo piano albums, many of them of a negligible nature. And yet, this kind of expression requires the ability to get into a competition of masterpieces. "Piano" is for Mulelid the highway to reach the next level.
