Art Hirahara: the Open Sky album – Jazzy Hour, September 2nd 2021

Let's delve into the mind of pianist Art Hirahara, which is as open as that of any modern musician that treasures tradition and knows that anything that ever truly mattered still matters, but is still connected to the new aesthetics, to the constantly changing language of music. We've listened to Art Hirahara here at Jazzy Hour in the past, along with Idle Hands and Behn Gillece. His musical vision opens up in the "Open Sky" album, released in 2021, which unravels a new set of musical introspection and emotional expression through the keyboard, accompanied by a balanced rhythmical section. Hirahara presents us a different level of songwriting and interpretation in a trio, with the help of bass player Boris Kozlov and drummer Rudy Royston, as well as saxophone player Nicole Glover and vibraphone player Behn Gillece. Their connection is complete, down to the smallest details of the structure, developing in aerated spaces a language so complex in its harmony and colour while maintaining the rhythm through groove and counterpoint. The mix between talent, class and evocative composition is perfect on this album, which guarantees moments of brilliant inspiration and joy.
