Pete Rodriguez: album "Obstacles", Jazzy Hour, 26th of October, 2021
Life is the best source of inspiration to reflect the truth through music. The difficult trials we encounter along the way shape our personality and determine our character. Obstacles intervene to be overcome and can become a real stimulus. At some point, all these events turn into a cursive, complex volume of artistic creation. For the American trumpeter and composer Pete Rodriguez, problems have become the best way to turn emotions into art, to face obstacles and to overcome it in a healthy and creative way. We do not go into personal details, we go directly to "Obstacles", the album consisting of songs that express feelings related to the situations and people who stood in his way and dispel the stereotype of the Latin American musician who can only play Latin jazz. The album features modern, live, swing-filled jazz, specific to the New York scene, where Rodriguez trained his musical level and met his bandmates, drummer Rudy Royston, bassist Ricardo Rodriguez, pianist Luis Perdomo and saxophonist John Ellis. Thus, Pete Rodriguez not only offers us an excellent jazz album, but also an example through which we can transform the tension created by problems into positive results, a therapeutic method to face obstacles through music.
