Alan Broadbent: album "Broadbent plays Brubeck", Jazzy Hour, 9th of November

There is music that you know only tangentially, which may surprise you or not, and the one that stays with you for the rest of your life, becoming a part of your existence, a line that always follows you and influences you along the way. This conclusion applies to the pianist Alan Broadbent too, who, as a teenager in Auckland, New Zeeland, discovered the transcriptions of Howard Brubeck on the album of his brother Dave, "Brubeck plays Brubeck". This finding had a major impact on the 14-year-old young man, helping him analyse and find the type of music he can work his magic on. After more than 50 years of growing into a full-fledged musician, Alan Broadbent returns to Brubeck's music, celebrating it in the most festive wayby recording an album at Abbey Road studios, together with bassist Harvie S, drummer Hans Dekker and London Metropolitan Strings. The pianist reopens the precious book by offering it the arrangements suited for the emotions experienced in his youth, adding new colours to the songs that are so familiar to him. "Broadbent plays Brubeck" is a magnificent album, which stylishlyrepresents Brubeck's genius and Broadbent's originality, clearly reflecting the hearts and imagination of both those great musicians. Such songs, in this type of presentation, arouse emotions that can't be put into words.
