Daniel García Trio: 'Vía de la Plata' album - Jazzy Hour, December 7th, 2021

We start with the pianist Daniel Garcia today, one of the most vibrant voices of the current generation in Spanish jazz. At least that's what has been said since the beginning of 2016, when he defined his style deeply influenced by the music of his native country, in expressive combination with the modern and flexible vocabulary of the piano trio. "Via de la Plata" is the album that continues this path, with a natural addition of refinement and maturity. The road that connected the north with the south of the Iberian Peninsula during the Roman Empire became the source of inspiration for this fabulous pianist born in Salamanca and raised in the spirit of a musical language that unites the world through all four cardinal points.

Clear and attentive, in deep intimacy, Garcia gives us the full meaning of musical modernity, comprehensive, which harmoniously combines several cultures, as the Via de la Plata, the road of silver, is the telling symbol of all who have united in forming Spain. His science of musically transposing these symbioses is ubiquitous on the album, through the emotional and virtuoso piano and the contribution of other musicians, bassist Reinier "El Negron", drummer Michael Olivera and guests Ibrahim Maalouf, Anat Cohen and Gerardo Nunez. "Via de la Plata" shows us Daniel Garcia's unique world in which Spanish folklore, jazz, classical music and flamenco are associated in detail and with compositional talent, making our journey rich in musical variety, spirit and inventiveness.
