On January 1st of this year, Radio România Muzical broadcasted live the New Year's Concert of the Vienna Philharmonic, conducted by Daniel Barenboim, an illustrious conductor who turns 8 decades this year.

The Viennese Philharmonic, which celebrated its 180th anniversary in March 2022, began the tradition of New Year's Concerts in 1939, when Clemens Krauss was conducting the Austrian Philharmonic Orchestra. Since then, illustrious conductors such as Herbert von Karajan, Carlos Kleiber, Lorin Maazel, Claudio Abbado, Riccardo Muti and Daniel Barenboim have been at the prestigious ensemble's rostrum for the January 1st concerts. The last one specified conducted the Viennese New Year's Orchestra for the first time in 2009, then in 2014 and again this year, giving the chosen program a brilliant, colourful and emotional performance. The event has been broadcasted in over 90 countries and watched by millions. As yearly, the concert was hosted by the beautiful Golden Hall "Goldener Saal" at the Musikverein in Vienna - an impressive space, inaugurated 152 years ago, with some of the best acoustic qualities among the world's concert halls.
