On January 21st, Avi released the 12th album of the Armida Quartet and the fourth in a series dedicated by the Berlin ensemble to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's music, a collection that will end in April with volume V. For the first time on Radio Romania Muzical, I propose selections from this recent album that includes String Quartets no. 4, 6, 7 and 19, recorded in Berlin in collaboration with Mozart's manuscript expert Wolf-Dieter Seiffert. The first song in the album's program is part of the Milanese Quartet set, named like this because they were written by Mozart during his time in Milan when he was working on his opera "Lucio Silla". The musician was then only 16 years old, and these quartets structured in three parts reflect the exuberance of the young composer, his optimistic and brilliant musical discourse.

Composed of violinists Martin Funda and Johanna Staemmler, violinist Teresa Schwamm-Biskamp and cellist Peter-Philipp Staemmler, the Armida Quartet became known in the music world after winning the difficult Munich ARD Competition in 2012. It then won not only the first prize but also the Audience Award and six other awards, marking the beginning of a successful career. Founded in 2006 in Berlin, the ensemble takes its name from the Armida opera by Joseph Haydn, the father of the classical string quartet. Between 2014 and 2016, the band was promoted to the BBC New Generation Artists series, also gave chamber concerts in famous venues in Europe, Asia, and the United States, collaborated with renowned artists such as Jörg Widmann, Sabine Meyer, and Daniel Müller-Schott, approaching a wide repertoire, from 18th-century music to contemporary music, with a special emphasis on classical creation. Mozart's music is performed by the Armida Quartet with enthusiasm, elegance, and stylistic rigor, following extensive research on Mozart's manuscripts.
