Georg Philipp Telemann - Flute and Continuous Bass - CD Review, March 25th, 2022

The album was released on January 14th, 2022, atBilliant Classics house, recorded in July 2020 at the Protestant Church in the Dutch city of Burgum. The record is dedicated to Georg Philipp Telemann, a 341-year-old musician who was born on March 24th, one of the most prolific creators of instrumental songs in Germany, a performer of various baroque instruments, and a composer who performed activity during the 18th century, in cities such as Leipzig, Eisenach, Frankfurt, and Hamburg. This album, which I propose to you within the "Discs of the Year 2022" project on Radio România Muzical, includes all the triosonatas for flute and basso continuo written by Telemann, as well as his Suite in F major for chalumeau and two viola da gamba. They are pieces of extraordinary harmonic and melodic inventiveness, enchanting by their dynamic and agogic contrasts, remarkably performed by Erik Bosgraaf on flute, violinists Lucile Boulanger and Robert Smith, Carl Rosman on chalumeau and Alessandro Pianu on organ and harpsichord.

The protagonist and initiator of these recordings is Erik Bosgraaf, one of the most appreciated flutists of the moment, who also works as a conductor. He has recorded 20 albums so far, his vast repertoire being extended from baroque to contemporary music. He also enjoys jazz or electronic music. About 100 pieces have been dedicated by contemporary composers to this exceptional Dutch flutist who has so far performed as a soloist with prestigious orchestras in Europe, North America, and Asia. He is currently an Associate Professor at the Krakow Academy of Music.
